Custom jigs and fixtures exist to make a process repeatable — which means the fixture itself needs to be reliable, accurately built, and designed around how your line actually operates. Choosing the wrong supplier here doesn't just cost money; it can introduce variability into a process you built the fixture specifically to eliminate.
What to look for in a fixture supplier
Design collaboration, not just fabrication. A good fixture supplier asks about your process constraints — cycle time, operator ergonomics, existing tooling — before designing, rather than simply building to a drawing you provide without comment.
Experience across fixture types. Welding fixtures, checking/inspection fixtures, and assembly fixtures each demand different design considerations. A supplier experienced primarily in one type may not transfer that expertise cleanly to another.
Precision in the fixture itself. A fixture is only useful if it's more accurate and repeatable than manual setup — which means the fixture's own tolerances often need to be tighter than the part it's holding.
Ability to iterate. First-fixture-off-the-line rarely works perfectly on the production floor. A supplier who expects and plans for a feedback-and-revision cycle is more realistic than one who promises a perfect fixture on the first attempt.

- The part drawing the fixture needs to hold or inspect
- Your current process step and what problem the fixture needs to solve (repeatability, speed, inspection accuracy)
- Production volume and expected fixture lifespan/duty cycle
- Any space or interface constraints with existing machines or stations
